In-Lake Treatment Seminar

The Alberta Lake Management Society hosted a special presentation from Dr. Miquel Lürling. Dr. Lürling is an associate professor at the aquatic Ecology and Water Quality Management Group of Wageningen University (The Netherlands), guest researcher at the department of Aquatic Ecology of the Netherlands Institute of Ecology, and co-founder of the Aquatic Knowledge Centre Wageningen.

This event will took place at the University of Alberta CCIS building room 1-140 on January 30 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Socializing from 6:30-7:00 pm followed by the official presentation.

Dr. Lürling will provide a critical overview of many of the measures which are commonly promoted in the Netherlands and more widely across Europe for cyanobacterial control. Dr. Lürling will include in his analysis both measures which are heavily promoted, but whose underlying mechanisms and field results are highly dubious, as well as measures which have been rigorously tested and show substantially more promise as mitigation measures against harmful algal blooms.
